What was your 2nd RPG?

First RPG: D&D Basic (c. 1984)
Second RPG: Top Secret (c. 1985)

We played the Operation Sprechenhaltestelle module, had no idea what we were doing, but had a ton of fun.

One of the locations is a greasy spoon diner. On encountering it, my brother complains: "Wouldn't go nowhere expect to eat at a greasy spoon." We still quote it to this day.

That was also the game where a friend of mine, sadly no longer with us, had an undefeated hand-to-hand combat win rate simply by selecting "groin kick" for his maneuver every round. Great fun. Good times.

From about the age of 9 I wanted to play D&D but my first was Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay in early 1987, which was closely followed by the BECMI D&D box sets. So Basic D&D was the my second.

My very first game was AD&D 1st Edition.

My second was kind-of-sort-of Dungeons & Dragons - the school library had a book "What is Dungeons & Dragons" which had a rough synopsis of how the rules sort of worked, and we cobbled something together from that.

Third was D&D using the "Red Box" Basic Set, and fourth (and first non-D&D) was WEG Star Wars d6 (first edition).

Dungeons & Dragons 3E. It was a silly game, it had a video-gamey hit point mechanic - they even rise with levels (did I mention this is so videogamey yet?), so they don't seem to represent wounds like in a proper roleplaying game, basically entirely nonsensical and unimmersive. And the spells are weird, caster apparently memorize them and when a spell is cast, it's gone, the caster doesn't even make any skill checks to see if he can even do it or how well he pulls it, it just happens like a button push. No idea who could come up with such a dumb system!
But I gave it a try, even if Shadowrun 3E was clearly a more realistic and believable game, but hey, they had even a character builder demo software for this new game, making it a bit easier to make a char. Most importantly, the new group my class-mate discovered here seems fun, even though they are about a decade older.
