Gauntlets of ogre power, girdle of storm giant strength, hammer of thunderbolts - smack!

And of course rod of lordly might

Mirror of Mental Prowess (like a crystal ball but anyone can use and it lets you go there!!!) and Hat of Difference (my halfling cleric/thief quickly became a cleric/thief/fighter/druid)

The Deck of Many Things, which almost all 1e games I was in loved too much and had pop up too often and usually did something to let you draw again. :)

To be honest, none at all. I've been thinking about this for a couple of days now (well, since I noticed this thread). I sort of hoped someone would mention an item and I'd suddenly remember 'yeah, that's indeed a great item!'. But no, for the life of me I cannot remember a single magic item in D&D that ever meant anything to me.

I remember a game where we discovered a Deck of Many Things. But I don't remember it in a good way.

All in all, in my personal experience as a player magic items in D&D have been either bland or of the kind that were created to screw characters.

Ran a game where a PC had a Wand of Wonder. We also had the 4 alternative Wand of Wonder charts from a Dragon Mag. and used them all combined. fun fun fun.

I always wanted a sun sword or a wand of force (it's a frickin light sabre.)

It's not the strongest one by a long shot, but I always had a soft spot for the Robe of Useful Items, and its magical ninja brother in Unearthed Arcana, the Robe of Stars.
