What will you do with the Economy Boost money?

Looks like I will be throwing it into savings. We didn't get the good news we were hoping for at my company and with cash running low and new funding uncertain, my inner pessimst is very concerned that I will be out of a job in the next few months.

I'm a bit torn. Normally, I would just put the money in the bank, but my Playstation 2 just died and I might finally break down and get a PS3. The problem is that the one that's backwards compatible is so damn expensive. :(

Sinking it into my property. I need to make some repairs to my home and also want to improve it in some places. If there is any/enough left over I'll start a pool fund.

I'd eventually like to put a pool in my back yard.

Use it to reduce my $800 tax payment to $200.

I don't get refunds usually, I have to pay the government. I kinda like it better that way, actually. Instead of the government keeping my extra money during the year I get to keep it and get interest on it, or have it in case of emergencies. I don't get a big "surprise" check in April, but that's because I've had the money all along.

Interesting that many of you are going to use it to pay down debt, or squirrel it away.

I think both of those are excellent things to do with a windfall like this. Of course, that's the exact opposite of what the President wants you to do with it...it's an "economic stimulus payment", and neither paying down debt nor savings do much, if anything, to stimulate the economy. The former is just paying off the debt service on purchase you've already made, while the latter defers the impact of the payment on the economy to some unnamed later date.

Nothing much on the immediate timescale, no. In a couple years, when our savings is built up to the point where we'll feel comfortable spending a big purse on a huge TV, or a really cool vacation, then the money will stimulate the economy.

The other way to look at is that some of us have spent quite a bit already stimulating the economy. We're already ahead of the game :)
