What would they be in D&D?

I'll take a shot at doing this for 4E.

[1. Aragorn/Strider
The leader of the Fellowship of the Ring, from J.R.R. Tolkiens "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, and the movie trilogy of the same name.]

I'm tempted to say paladin, but really he's probably best modeled as a charismatic warlord.

[2. Odysseus
Sailor and wanderer from Greek legend, a hero in Homer's "The Iliad" and the main character of Homer's "The Odyssey". ]

Odysseus is a character distinguished more by roleplaying than by what he does in combat. (Though of course he's a mighty combatant.) Probably a rogue.

[3. Maximus
Roman general and gladiator hero, played by Russel Crowe in Ridley Scott's masterpiece, "Gladiator".]

Tactical warlord. (Not shy on the charisma, though.)

[4. Merlin
Mysterious advisor to King Arthur]

NPC plot device in most retellings. He's the wise old man who shows up to give the PCs their next mission.

Aragorn

1e: human ranger
3e: human ranger/aristocrat with leadership feat and maybe a level of cleric for some stronger healing mojo

Odysseus

1e: human fighter with Strength of 18/00 and Intelligence 18
3e: human tougher call, could be fighter or rogue but still with 18 Str, 18 Int

Maximus

1e: human fighter
3e: human marshal/fighter

Merlin

1e: see Deities and Demigods
3e: druid/sorcerer, not sure I'd stat him out as something half demonic

So, we've pretty clearly established that Maximus is a Hexblade/Psychic Warrior or a 1e Monk, so how about another batch of characters?

5. Link
Hero of the "Legend of Zelda" video game series.

Which Link? Seriously.

If we're talking about OoT-TWW I'd be tempted to say a bard, potentially with swordmage multiclassing (in 4e), given the extremely important role music plays in the games.

However, in TP, the magic is almost wholly removed from his character, with the exception of his shapeshifting. What you have left is someone who could be a fighter, an archer ranger, a druid, or warden. Hmmm... maybe bard's still a good idea after all (for multiclassing benefits).

I'd probably settle on a fighter/warden for TP Link, given that he doesn't seem to do enough magic to really qualify as a druid but the shapeshifting is an important part of his character. On the other hand, given that wardens don't fully shapeshift (basically just turning into a beast-man) I might be more convinced by a fighter multiclassing as a druid.

TP Link is tough. Oot-TWW Links are not.

6. Susan Pevensie
Older Pevensie sister from C.S. Lewis's "Chronicles of Narnia".

Susan never struck me as a very important character. If I had to choose, however, she would probably be an archer ranger, just because it's the gift that Father Christmas gives her. But she really doesn't do much in the books and is told, specifically, to stay out of the fighting.

7. Will Turner
Orphan Blacksmith turned swashbuckling pirate in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" trilogy

Rogue. Probably an acrobatic rogue, given how much of what he does on screen is carry out extraordinary stunts.

In fact, come to think of it, most of the characters in PotC are acrobatic rogues.

1. Aragorn/Strider: Half-Elf Inspiring Warlord with Ranger multiclass

2. Odysseus: Human Ranger with Rogue multiclass

3. Maximus Decimus Meridius: Human Bravura Warlord with Fighter multiclass

4. Merlinus Ambrosius: Lawful Good Deva* Druid with Wizard multiclass

* - Deva only in the mechanics, since they are more in tune with Merlin that a tiefling's.
