D&D 5E What Would You Play With These Stats?

Honestly, having high stats doesn't matter that much in 5e. I have a monk that has an 20 in Dex and 18 in Wis, and she doesn't outshine any of the other party members at all (yes, this was starting at level 1). The others have 16s-18s for their primary stats. I wouldn't punish them just because they rolled well; what did the other players get?

If you are going to control the PC's dice rolls and where they put their stats, you should a) tell them that first, and b) do point buy or fixed stat array. Right now you're just meddling and controlling. Next you're going to be giving bonuses to someone because they "rolled too low".

With the natural limit of 20 on any stat, it looks like lucky rolls in 5E are not nearly as game-breaking as they might have been in earlier editions. I'd say let them play whatever they wish, and let bounded accuracy surprise you with how balanced the whole enchilada still is.

Maybe I'm just more lenient than some DMs, but I don't have a problem with high PC stats. I really wouldn't have a problem with letting a player select the better of the array or a rolled set of attributes.

One of my players rolled up a PC. I think she done well anyway. Rolled in front of me and I allow 1 roll.Tough luck if you roll bad.

She decided to play a Hill Dwarf Dragon Sorcerer as I told her I would prefer it if she did not go for a race with a charisma bonus or something like a half elf.

If it was my PC I would have gone for a mountain dwarf wild sorcerer- tank around in medium armor and hit stuff with your axe until level 5 or more. I would also consider a valor bard or bladelock or other gish type PC that kind of needs MAD more than other classes.

I just had my nieces roll - they've never played. Instead of the array, which I would normally use, I had them roll to take the experience and try and teach them some about the game. 7x 4d6, drop the lowest 6 and then drop the lowest total. She ended up with 18, 18, 17, 14, 12, 11. I almost made her re-roll to try and get something worse.

Having never played before, she won't notice me not giving her racial bonuses.
