Message: <blockquote data-quote="Manbearcat" data-source="post: 6074520" data-attributes="member: 6696971">That's fair and more than likely correct.  When I would reverse engineer the design framework in my mind, I've always looked at 3.x through the prism of the numerous changes rather than what it shared with AD&D.  So I suspect the "why" is likely as you surmise.  If true though, as delricho above upthread, it doesn't say much for the rigour of the playtesting and the designing if just from a thought experiment perspective.For what its worth, normalizing the action economy helped us on both sides as it had the least moving parts (and thus 2nd order interactions) and it made both melee PCs more effective/functional and melee monsters/NPC more threatening and relevant at higher levels.</blockquote>
