What would you think of this idea for a D&D MMORPG campaign?

Does the following idea of an online D&D campaign interest you? Would you play in such a game?

Ainulindale is an online Dungeons and Dragons game that combines the concepts of Greek mythology and the Lord of the Rings mythology into a Dungeons and Dragons setting. Here, mortals and immortals alike interact with one another in whatever way they wish.

The Realm of the Ainur is the portion of the Ainulindale game where the Ainur (the god-like beings that act as deities in Ainulindale) interact with each other and their surroundings. Here, Ainur of Light plan out other wonderful achievements and creations, and where Ainur of Darkness plot to corrupt and destroy the creations of the Ainur of Light.

with online games I worry less about the setting, and more about the format used and the other people involved in the game. It sounds fun, and I'd do it as a table top no problem.

The format would be different than most D&D PbP games. It would work out to be more of a MMORPG, with players on both the sides of Light and Dark, as well as some in-between or indifferent, as they prefer.

The game would be played out across several threads, each thread representing a different location (one of the threads was the HQ of the Light, one was a garden, another a training ground, etc.).

Basically, the way I planned it, the Players would create a pantheon of deities, except they would be playing the deities from the beginning of their lives, when they were level 1 Outsider whelps.

There would be plenty of room for creativity, as PCs could create new races and such, and even take part in the creation of the Mortal World.

There were two parts to the game, one for the deities, and one for the mortals. Players could have 1 character for each (they'd basically create and play their own deity, then create a mortal who is cutting his own path through life).

It sounded like a good idea when I first thought of it.

Sounds groovy, but I think Valaquenta would allow more creation and interaction, if you're intentionally naming it after the book in the Silmarilion. Ainulindale was the music thing with the Ainur and Iluvatar, Valaquenta was when some of the Ainur (the Valar) created things in their world, including the elves, and eventually the dwarves and humans. The only conflict in Ainulindale was Iluvatar silencing Melkor, but Valaquenta has a couple of wars between the Valar.

Perhaps I'm splitting hairs, but anyway, it sounds pretty awesome.

I know, Ainulindale just sounded cool. And I named it after the Ainur. I also just like Ainur better than Valar.

From what I remember, Melkor was causing a lot of trouble corrupting the Valar's works and such. The orcs were supposedly elves that had been corrupted by Melkor. And the Valar warred against Melkor in great battles that shook the earth.

Anyway, Ainulindale seems to fit better since the game begins with practically nothing except the place where the Ainur are. There is no Earth, only the realm in which the Ainur inhabit.

If anyone is interested, let me know (just post here, I guess). I could get the whole thing up pretty quick, since I saved all the stuff I had from last time and just need to paste it in.

Yeah, but none of that was around until Valaquenta.

You've got an excellent point here. I often wonder if that's the coolest word ever. I pronounce it aye-in-nool-in-dall-ee (no idea how correct that is), and I really enjoy saying it. If you named it Ainulindale, that would be just another reason to say it frequently, which would place me in your gratitude. :D
