I just had a thought for how WotC could win back a lot of goodwill:

Do something like this with the pre-3E downloads--huge bundles for small contributions, with the proceeds going to Haiti. The PDFs exist, and they've worked with DriveThruRPG until they pulled everything last year; it shouldn't be too hard to set up, and as I said, I think it would help them tremendously in terms of PR.

That's really clever. I've gotten in contact with my friend in WotC PR to suggest the idea; I have no understanding of the hurdles, so goodness knows, but this was too good an idea not to pass on.

brucecordell had his donation for Haitian relief matched by Hasbro today.

So Hasbro/WotC is already doing something at least, it seems, but it would indeed be awesome if they made the old editions available on PDF again, if only for a short time.

I hereby retract my earlier statement, which in hindsight wasn't very appropriate even before Jack posted this. My apologies to everyone.

I do, however, LOVE the idea of offering the older PDFs in packages in exchange for charitable donations. I too encourage WotC to consider this as an option the next time a humanitarian relief effort is needed somewhere in the world.
