Whatever Happened to Classic TSR Downloads?

I am completely behind WOTC doing a pre-3.x PDF bundle sale as a Haitian relief drive.

I would pay my $20 for this (even though my wife and I gave what we could to help already).

I guess that depends on how high they set the DC. :D

Still, it would be nice if there was an easy way to get old modules.
O there is an easy way, but it ain't legal. So they don't talk about that stuff here.

I just had a thought for how WotC could win back a lot of goodwill:

Do something like this with the pre-3E downloads--huge bundles for small contributions, with the proceeds going to Haiti. The PDFs exist, and they've worked with DriveThruRPG until they pulled everything last year; it shouldn't be too hard to set up, and as I said, I think it would help them tremendously in terms of PR.
This is a rather awesome idea for 'Epic Win' on all sides.

Absolutely! I DOUBLE DOG DARE you!!! Make me eat crow. Make me take back everything I've ever said about you. Do it. I know you wanna.
Just trump it up a bit more with a TRIPLE-dog-dare ya!

That's really clever. I've gotten in contact with my friend in WotC PR to suggest the idea; I have no understanding of the hurdles, so goodness knows, but this was too good an idea not to pass on.
Thank you for passing that on Piratecat. If nothing else it puts a but in their ear that the fanbase wants this and is willing to compromise on how we can get it.
It's one of those moves where there is no real losers on any side of it.
Good PR - Check
Fans Happy - Check
Limited release = WotC Happy - Check
Haiti Helped - Check

Tolena Thorburn, WotC's communication manager, tells me that these requests are going through Corporate Giving at Hasbro. She thinks that the company's efforts to help Haiti may be solidified at this point (which may mean it's a good idea a little too late), but she's going to pass the idea along. So far WotC has had a really successful internal matching program, and has a few other fundraiser ideas planned that aren't yet announced.

I'll point her towards this thread. I wouldn't necessarily expect this to happen due to things moving slowly in larger corporations, but I'll be delighted if it does.

To which one can only respond, Phooey. Corporate doubletalk. Watch the news and tell us again it's too late to donate money for this effort. Even if every displaced citizen in Haiti currently has a roof overhead, medical care, security, and food - which they most assuredly don't - there is STILL a vast need to fill.

Well let me just state for Tolena Thorburn that if she is truly interested in getting any kind of donation from ME through WotC, that providing 1E rules PDF's in exchange is about the only method I'd consider as opposed to simply making a donation through my usual institutions.

Here's hoping.

Bullying threats work awesomely well. Good thinking. That strategy is guaranteed to succeed. Mind you, I'm a little unclear why WotC should care if you donate through them or someone else, but that's okay.

The point here is using something people want to lure more donations out of peoples' pockets to help the less fortunate. If you refuse to donate because a charitable company isn't meeting your demands, that's up to you, but I honestly don't have a lot of sympathy.
