Whatever happened with the Ennies?

I know there was a lot of debate over the Ennies after Gencon Indy and I remember Morrus mentioned that he was appointing someone to head up the future of Ennies. Was anything ever decided or did I just miss it?

You haven't missed anything. Nothing has publicly been said about what is going on with the 2005 ENnies.

There's someone in the running for the job, but I haven't decided for certain yet. I do intend to make the decision before Christmas, though.

All I know for sure is that there was some significant dissatisfaction with how the ennies were handled, and as much dissatisfaction with practically every suggestion for change and/or improvement that was made.

I was at the awards ceremony at Gen Con - a little long, a little dry, but nothing too terribly bad.

I'd like to see a set of awards for all the D20/OGL stuff out there, pointing Enworld members to the best of the best in that area. If RPGnet wants to have a set of awards for all RPGs (or even just nonD20) I say let them do it. But this is MOSTLY a D20/OGL site, and there's no reason to pretend that that's a bad thing.

Also - GET WotC (and White Wolf/Sword and Sorcery Studios) INVOLVED! The awards don't mean much if the big guys aren't playing.

My two cents. Ignore at your leisure!

No there wasn't. We had another after ENnies discusion and it went a lot better then in years past. We had a lot of good suggestions and many different views were expressed. I thought there were good points made by a lot of different people and as the new ENnies start up we will see what is practical and what itsn't

The ceremony was very fast and many people thought it was great. No one said it was too long, in fact the MC had to stretch for time as it was speeding by.

We had awards for d20 stuff. We also had awards for non d20 stuff. We invite all publishers to be involved but we can not force them, it is their choice and we respect that.

We could make it real simple - just skim down the page to the thread about the top 5 games of the last 12 months.

The ones that are mentioned most often are your winners.

No need for anything else...and the cost was in-line with what many are willing to pay.

Just offering my two cents! I'm not running the thing, and I'm relatively certain that I would rather die than do so, since it appears to be an essentially thankless task.

I was a part of that after-ennies discussion, and I don't seem to recall the consensus that you do. However, if it was there, I'm glad for it, whatever the result was.

Regardless of the pros and cons of who was and was not involved (and what kinds of awards we had and should have) I *still* think it was a little long and a little dry. While it was undoubtedly better than in previous years, that does not necessarily mean it was good.

Don't confuse any of that for criticism of the people involved - they were all volunteers as far as I know, and their contribution should lauded and respected, no matter the final product. I thought the MC did as well as could be expected, and the rigid maintenence of time restrictions for thank yous were fantastic.

Does that mean there's no room for improvement? I didn't think so...

I thought the ceremony was perfect. I know that there was some consideration about dropping the awards, and I just wanted to make sure that hasn't happened. Is this going to be opened back up again for discussion, or do you have all of the input and suggestions you need?
