What're your opinions of the new D&D Miniatures line so far?

At GTS I spoke to the gentleman who's running this line for WOTC and asked "Seriously and honestly, are these real examples of precisely how the minis will be painted or are they specially-painted versions for the show?" I asked this, of course, because they looked much better than I expected them to.

He responded that they were examples of the finished product with the very same paint jobs they'll have when they're released. He noted that they're painted by the same folks who paint Hasbro's Star Wars action figures, and that the paint jobs should be at least that good.

(Edited to clarify that it's Hasbro that puts out SW action figures, not WOTC.)

Hey, thanks for the info! :) I always thought WoTC would do well to take advantage of Hasbro's resources in whatever mini line they were to do. Nice to see they are.

So did you find anything else, out? Like maybe the type of plastic used? *sigh* What I wouldn't give to go to one of these shows. I'd make sure to have a list of questions written up, ready to ask. Try to get as much information as possible.

If it weren't for the collectible part, I'd be very happy. This way, I'm rather happy and somewhat wary.

Nightfall - Were did you see the the Sandmasker/Scorpionfolk mini/information? I don't seem to find it.

Dunno. I just assumed that since they had Razor boar.

Not going to touch these things with a 10 foot pole, precisely because of the whole "collectible" angle. I'm not going to buy random miniatures any more then I'm going to buy random dice and hope for a matching set.

My miniature money is going to be spent on things that are actually worth it, like the absolutely amazing LotR minis from GW (The detail... my God, the detail...), or the high quality and cheap Reaper line...
