Whats a DM ta do?

Im poor, dirt ash poor. Mostly due to medical reasons. Also I can't get around very well (also due to medical reasons) which makes getting out of the house difficult. I also live quite far from any game stores or comic shops. So far infact that I find it increasingly difficult to find players for my campaigns. I found as of late, that I use the message boards here on Enworld alot more than I actually use some of my DM books when it comes to needing inspiration or campaign ideas.

So my question is this: How does some one with as little options as I have continue to learn about the newest game releases, game news, and new concepts?

Any ideas for online sites?

Um....have you looked around? You're there.

Chimera hits it spot on.

ENWorld is one of the largest D&D community (maybe the largest one), and without a doubt the best. It's hard to find a more polite and comfortable environment than this.

There's not only the reviews, but usually every D&D release has its own thread with questions asked by some lucky bastard who got the thing early.

And not just the D&D stuff from Wizards. The whole gamut of d20 is discussed here.

Same for concepts and everything else D&D/d20. Got Ideas? They belong here, where they flourish and grow as others give you their 2 coppers. And, of course, their ideas are there for you to take, too.

What they said. En World consistantly is first with news about releases, people that come online to talk about the books that are coming out, and generally, you get to meet nice people like Erik Mona, Ari Marmell, and even (if we're lucky) Mike Mearls. :)

Last time they showed the numbers, EN World was second only to the WotC site.

And, Gary Gygax himself! Sometimes Monte Cook stops by too.

Monte's retired though.

Gary's a more reliable source. :)

*is glad En World is second to WotC* We produce better stuff anyway. ;)

Have you checked your local public library? While they may not carry anything in the way of gaming, they probably get in recently published Sci-Fi and Fantasy novels.

They are also open for suggestions. You could see if they have interest in subscribing to Dragon magazine. I've read from some ENWorld posters that the local library is their source for Dragon.

You also might check to see if they have a gaming group that meets there. My own local library has a miniatures game group that meets most Sunday afternoons. If yours doesn't, suggest starting one.

That one doesn't count ;)

You are correct, ENWorld is the largest FAN BASED or FAN SUPPORTED site.

That makes it better. :D

To Nik, you're here baby! And if you can't afford to buy new materials, why bother staying on top of new releases? ...Unless you steal .pdf's off of bit torrent or other service and have every book published for free like some people do...but in that case I figure you'd download everything and then throw away what you don't like.
I'd say get involved in some PbP or PbEmail groups, which disregard location, mobility, and economic status....there are a ton.

Just Don't Stop.

Also keep in mind that the "Talking the Talk" and "Playing the Game" forums here at ENWorld are dedicated to Play-by-post gaming, which is one way people can get their gaming fixes in when they can't get a regular group going, or for the weekdays when they're in between their regular weekly gaming sessions.
