Yes, but 5000 gamers is, quite simply, a drop in the gaming bucket. A million or more use the core, and 5000 use Monte's? 5000 or 100 looks about the same at that point.
Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if there was one. The "bloody obvious variant" - one that doesn't need distribution, because it crops up independantly in the minds of DMs and players:
1)Allow a swap - two virtual archery feats for TWP and Ambidex if the player desires, retaining the armor restriction.
2)Modify the Favored Enemy Bonus slightly, so that the player has more choice in allocating the bonus. Rather than "Take new enemy, all old enemies get +1", use something like "Choose a new enemy, you now have X points to distribute among your Enemies (X=1 at 1st, 2 at 5th, 3 at 10th, etc). No two bonuses may be equal, no bonus may be higher than X. Otherwise, distribute as you wish."
