D&D 5E What's Everyone Playing for their "Halloween Game?"

Nice call, that’s a very creepy section. Perhaps even moreso when taken out of context.
I arrived at the selection in a roundabout fashion. I was initially thinking of running an old Dungeon adventure called "Euphoria Horrors", and then I noticed that I was scheduled to be running a game the night before Halloween. Unfortunately, the adventure doesn't quite live up to its name, which makes me think of bad acid trips. That, in turn, made me think of myconids. And that's when I remembered the Neverlight Grove.

I've tried doing zombie apocalypse-style Halloween adventures in the past, but my players are all a bit too jaded for that sort of thing. So I'm hoping that the grove's disturbingly trippy vibe might do the trick instead.

Luckily my regular gaming night falls appropriately on Halloween and the PCs are already heading somewhere creepy.

In the frozen tundra of Drebelle sits the frozen cathedral, a Holy place where the worship of all kinds of gods is permitted. It is the common endpoint of many a cleric's pilgrimage.
When the PCs arrive the usually bustling cathedral is mostly deserted, with only a handful of attendants roaming the halls. The altars have been desecrated and the remaining priests speak the praises of a new master.
The PCs are welcomed in and told that they too can find enlightenment, given time.

Unbeknownst to them, an aboleth has awoken in the glacier beneath the cathedral and has been working its way through the congregation. Most of the priests and clerics have been mind-controlled and descended into the hidden chambers below the ice where they can perform their worship. These thralls won't hesitate to give their lives to protect their new master.

To make the whole thing worse, several of the thralls are relatives of PCs, or are friendly NPCs, meaning the party can't just cut their way through.

My 4e DM has cooked up something called the "Ghost King" which is going to involve a lot of charm and illusion effects. So far, the Drow, erm, pile has been most pleasant for my Hexblade, but the implications of how that Drow pile came to be are definitely not safe for Eric's Grandma... but definitely happened (in spirit) on Game of Thrones.

The outline of my plan for a Halloween adventure 2015:

The Monster Mash

On Halloween night the town dresses as their favorite spooky monster. Children collect coins from their neighbors, and adults celebrate in costume balls. But this Halloween somethings gone terribly wrong. Some people have become the monsters they've dressed as! The adventurers need to subdue the victims before they tear apart the city, and find the culprit behind this dastardly deed, before the changes become permanent.

I. Child-sized Monsters Attack The Inn

Going to do a Hag/Zombie variation of Mist/Fog movie. A town becomes isolated from the rest of the world by a heavy fog that have zombies roaming about it.

Wow. I was just talking to bawylie last week about writing and posting a scenario called "Monster Mash" that involved a masquerade party infiltrated by agents of the Great Old One. Challenge is to figure out who is a monster and how is normal and to deal with each agent without disturbing the party.

This is even creepier. I was watching The Mist last night on Amazon Prime and thought I might do something like instead of what I typed above. Movie is godawful and I haven't gotten all the way through it, but it would be a simple write-up.

Im just starting a game tomorrow night where the players take on the role of hunters ala supernatural and the witcher, we will be on session 2 just prior to halloween and this should work perfectly so long as i ensure theyre dealing with something i can really play up to be super spoopy

I've got an all-day session for I6 Castle Ravenloft planned. Going to use the update done by someone on Reddit (here), which I used last year to good effect. That time I ran it for about 6ish hours in one go, and the players got about 2/3rds of the way through, so I think that my regular group will have time to meet up, play through it, and get it done all in one day-long session. The biggest question, apart from date, is whether to use the normal characters from the main campaign, or to have everyone quickly gen some new 5th level dudes for the occasion. I rather prefer the idea of new characters - it avoids worrying about the odd old-school treasure being handed out.
