What's the best creature for a Halloween themed encounter?

Zombies, lots and lots of Zombies, fog and darkness.

As long as your setting is suspensful without the zombies breaking out into a Michael Jackson induced funky dance you'll be fine.

Ropers are just plain creepy, and despite their terrain entry stating underground I think they look enough like dried-out old tree stumps that they are apt to be found in those ol' haunted woods just north of town...

Or a good old fashioned Ghost. Variable enough to customize to any story... and need not be the villain of the piece.
