What's the best die type and why is it the d12?

Yep, the d12 is the best. In a pinch, it can also be a d2, a d3, a d4, and a d6. I remember seeing a (nearly) complete set of dice at a convention a few years ago---it was just a set of d12s with creative numbering.

I love the classic d6 (and it’s easily obtained for new players from board games etc) but the d4 is an unequalled caltrop, only matched by Lego pieces.

I'm actually a big fan of the d30, it feels like a d20 but with more granularity in the results.

Individually, the d12 wins. But I do appreciate the classical d6, too, and prefer it to other dice for anything with more 3 dice or more.

D20 is fun, and an easy % system with 5% increments

Better for what? For home defense the obvious answer is the d4.
