What's the cool way not to drink at a bar?

As a designated driver. I have generally gotten my soft drinks for free at bars when I'm the designated car-guy for a bunch of friends, and I get a goodly amount of respect from the bar staff.

I don't understand the question. Not drink at a bar? Color me confused.
This question is exactly the one I'd rather avoid when a group of gamers heads to a bar after a session.

Ryan, if you don't treat it like a big deal, then the odds are good neither will anyone else. If the question comes up, shrug and say "I feel like a coke." Problem solved. Or should be, anyway.

Hrm, are you concerned with getting weirdness from your gaming buddies or the waitstaff? If the waitstaff, I'm pretty sure if you just order something as expensive as a beer they won't care. If the gamers, impersonate a Mimbari. :p

Lennier: There's no alcohol in here, is there?
Ambassador Londo Mollari: Alcohol? No, of course not. Here, drink up.
Lennier: Because my people do not react well at all to alcohol. Even a small quantity causes psychotic impulses and violent, homicidal rages.
[Londo stops him from drinking]
Ambassador Londo Mollari: Ahh ahh ahh... my mistake. *Alcohol*...

Seriously, order whatever you feel like and if someone questions it, tell them that's what you wanted to drink.

That may be so in the OGTTB game. but GTTB 2nd Ed. has a new race. the Designated Driver. They can't lose unless they commit an alcoholic act. then they lose their Designated driver status until they atone.
