What's the level equivalent of a Ghaele Eladrin (leadership feat)

Well, since they cast spells like a 14th level cleric, AND have lots of nifty powers, AC, DR, magic sword etc, I would say a level equivalent of about 24th, 25th...something like that?

After all, the CR3 unicorn counts as 8th level (+5 on the CR) because of its nifty movement and healing and stuff... The Ghaele is much better in every respect.

(n.b. it is curious though, is it not, that a 14th level cleric is CR14, while a Ghaele Eladrin has the spell casting ability of a 14th level cleric plus better hit points, saves, AC and abilities, and yet is one CR lower. Why? Is it because they "play fair" all the time, or don't like hurting anyone??)

Cheers

In Dragon 293 they're given an ECL of 20. Conventional wisdom is that these figures are somewhat high, plus this would be the figure if you wanted to play one, if you wanted one as a follower... The eyrinyes is listed with an equivilant level of 15, with weaker abilities and 60% of the hit dice. With all of this I wouldn't go lower than 18 and I might just go with the Dragon 293 figure of 20.

I think this is a great point alot of this is going to depend on how the Celestial is played. If the character is something of a power gamer and uses the celestial as a 2nd character with no autonomy I wouldn't have any problem with plane-sailing's figures. If on the other hand the celestial was more autonomous and frequently questioning the characters "goodness" and refusing to cooperate with questionable choices....

Yeah, the CR 13 is really a bit questionable.

I mean, just because they are purely good, doesn't make them any less dangerous (when encountered by evil characters, of course, good characters should rarely get in combat with them). Of course, they don't have all the abilities of a 14th level cleric (especially not the hit points or domain abilities), so this might also be a reason for the lower challenge rating (hit points alone are worth a lot, I suppose).

My own consideration was to multiply the CR by 1.5, since this seems to fit with many of the listed creatures with a similar power level (like dragons).

If the ELH actually has figures on them, that would be good, of course!

EDIT: Ok, ELH does list it with a 21st level equivalent!

Compared with the NPC Cleric in the DMG

Ghaele vs Cleric

hp 65 vs 88
AC 25 vs 24
init +5 vs 0
spd 50/150 fly vs 20ft :)
attack +21/+16 (2d6+14) vs +12/+6 (1d8+2)
saves +9/+8/+10 vs +12/+5/+12

The Ghaele gets additional spell like abilities, SR28(!), DR 25/+3(!), gaze attack, immunities and resistances.

Now, I suppose when fighting 13th level foes it is quite possible for a fighter or a wizard or rogue to deal out 75 damage in one round, killing the Ghaele... but the problem would be actually getting him in combat in the first place!

Matching one against a (supposedly) CR 13 Vrock would be a bit of a massacre for the Vrock, suggesting that maybe celestials were influencing the assignment of CR values :)

Cheers
