Now ALL spells have some use. But there's always one spell that you would NEVER take.

Some may even be decent spells... but shouldn't be at that high of a level!

I know I'm leaving off LOTS of them... but these are my most hated.

You've got some pretty good spells on your list. Endurance is good for boosting your wimpy wizard's HP, and Keen Edge is great for buffing the fighter types. Although they have a long casting time, the Summon Monster spells can be really powerful at high levels, and even at low levels they are very useful for flanking enemies so the rogue can get some extra attacks in, or just to bolster the front line.

Erase is one of the weakest spells I can think of. Detect Undead and Detect Secret Doors are spells I have never seen a wizard memorize, although I suppose you might want them if you were fighting undead or secret doors. I'm not as familiar with the high level spells, and they're almost all good in an absolute sense, so I can't say which of them I think are the weakest.

I'll go with one of the 1st level "detect" spells as well. Are you really willing to burn a spell slot for "Detect Evil", only to be stomped by a mindless construct when you open the door...?

edit: and Rary's Mnemonic Enhancer rocks (3 magic missiles or one poymorph.... in a dungeon, those 3 MM will make sure you don't burn it all before the fat lady sings!

Gust of Wind.

Crap spell that is STILL THIRD LEVEL

WTF?!

I have never, EVER, had a mage use it or even memorize it.

A 0 level spell if I ever saw one.

Course lets not get into the nonsense that is Analyze Dewomer (6th level and you only have a chance to detect the properties of magic items? Changed it to 4th level and it gives all the powers for one magic item/casting).

All spells have their uses at certain times.
Shatter comes in handy againist Glass Golems etc.
You never know when something might come in use.

All for one, and one for all!

Summon Monster (all of 'em!) - Just ask any rogue who got off a sneak attack due to a well-timed summon monster, or a wizard who got carried to the top of a cliff with a flying monster, or a sorcerer who had a summoned dire rat distract a guard while he mage handed the keys back to himself. :)

Shatter - ask the bard who saved the entire party's bacon by shattering an hourglass that ran a room trap (the DM had a D&D movie fetish).
Endurance - I survived a battle once at my Cleric 7th level, with 5 hit points left - and I had just cast endurance before we entered combat.
Keen Edge - The ranger thanks the party mage for making him a scabbard that casts keen edge on his rapier just before the start of combat.
Gust of Wind - a villain is perched at the top of a windy cliff, jabbering about how he is going to destroy us all. I'll let you fill in the blank. :)
Dream - Beats the hell out of Federal Express. :D
Tenser's Floating Disk - the guy who posted the train of wizards riding one another's tenser's floating disks while bombaring stuff below gave me the scary shakes.
Rary's Mnemonic Enhancer - Who wouldn't like extra spell power - and a 3rd level pearl of power costs waaaay too much.

Erase - I haven't tried it, but It would make a great practical joke to play on a wizard - erase a page of his favorite 9th level spell!

Got any more?

Minor Creation - Creates one cloth or wood object, and a 4th level spell to boot. I am a powerful wizard who can turn a Dragon into a worm or conjure a dishtowel from nothingness! Behold my wooden spoon where there was just simple air before!

Yes, now shout me down with examples of this spell's utility.

Empowered endurances are standard in my group. Sometimes they are empowered even twice. +10 con can do miracles to your hitpoints.

Gust of wind had got to be it. I have memorized it and used it and in very specialized circumstances it was somewhat useful, but no where near 3rd level useful.

Summon monster, well up to 5 or 6 they suck. The 1 round casting time really wrecks these spells, especially considering you have to target the spell when you begin casting the spell not the end. I don't know how many times I set the spell up so it might be cool, and then people moved so it sucked. But if you're hasted and you don't want to blow two spells this round a full round action isn't so bad for a summon spell as opposed to its normal 1 round. The flanking benefits really are nothing since if your rogue is out in a position where he can flank someone chances are he'll be dead before the summon shows up, and if he is not dead the opponent was such a sucker a MM would of likely handled him anyway. Basically until the 5 or 6 the monsters are way to weak to justify a 1 round casting time. About the only use for these spells is utility, need heal spels summon that celestial something, or a unicorn, need to get through some rock summon that thoquo(sp?). And at one round a level duration utility is greatly limited.
