D&D 4E What's the typo/errata situation in the 4e books?

Alabast

First Post
I'm thinking about picking up the 4E books today, and I was wondering if Wizards was able to avoid some of the typo/errata ugliness that has plagued it in the past. Do you guys that have the books get the feeling that they were careful in the printing? Or is it another errata mess like the Star Wars Saga Rulebook? I ask because I would prefer to wait for a second printing if there are an egregious amount of corrections to be made in this one.

Thanks!

Unless you believe that it should be harder for a rogue to sneak up to a door with enemies on the other side undetected than for a paladin in platemail to clank his way up to it, there are definately errata issues. The rules say DC25 is the default perception check for enemies on the other side of the door-- or if you sneak, Stealth check +5. You'd have to be like 20th level before the stealth check is a better idea than clanking and banging your way up to the door.

I'm very happy with the lack of problems/typos.

That said, there are a lot of pages, and I'm sure there will be plenty of errata, but I've had my books for a week now and have been reading them every day. I haven't been smacked in the face by any glaring problems.

The worst I've personally found (though the stealth DC thing above is true) is Nature being marked as an Intelligence skill instead of Wisdom in the Wizard's Class Features sidebar, a bit of gibberish that was left behind in the Healing the Dying section, and a power (can't remember which) which said something like pushes your ally prone when it should have said pushes your enemy prone, or something like that. So I would say the errata situation is actually looking pretty good.

Having said that, there are several things that although having no typos per se, dearly need some official clarification/arbitration - stealth in combat for one, adding modifiers to flat damage, stuff like that that's been bouncing around the forums for the last few days.

But overall I'd give it a thumbs-up.
