What's your experience with Conan?

I have not read any of the Conan series. My only exposure to Conan is through the movie. Sort of sad. I should seek to remedy that.

In a nutshell: Conan's okay, but I much prefer John Carter.

And over JC, I prefer Golden Age sci-fi like the Instrumentality of Man.

I read some of REH's Conan stories as a teenager, and probably saw the two movies around the same time. I managed to read all the original stories sometime in my mid-20s. I also tried a couple of Conan novels by other authors (Robert Jordan, for instance) but gave up because they were just really, really bad.

I also have the Conan television series with Ralf Möller on DVD, but I've only seen one episode. You really need to watch it with friends to enjoy how bad it is.
