What's your favorite local game store?

We are blessed with several gaming stores, but my personal favourite in Ottawa is The Wizard's Tower.

Good selection, three gaming tables, friendly and knowledgable staff (the owner usually), a fridge full of drinks, will let you return any product if you don't like it. What's not to like?

I have to add my vote to the chorus of Bay Area gamers singing the praises of Gator Games. Great slection, and staff that's at least moderately friendly. Neutral Ground had been degenerating for a while, IMO; I think they shot their wad when M:TG was super-hot, and rented all that floor space for tournaments, and so have a more limited cash flow now, even with getting rid of half their store. I'm sorry to hear about Scenario in Fremont (a few blocks down from where I used to live); I liked how it had a very nice selection of RPGs and CCGs, even though they were obviously more of a model trains and model cars type of place.

As for Chicago, I've been impressed with Games Plus. I hadn't heard of them until the ENworld get-together was announced, but I've been there several times since. I happened to visit both Games Plus and the NYC Compleat Strategist in the same week around Christmas, and was surprised that a store in Mt. Prospect, IL had an equivalent selection - with more square footage! Definitely better than Pastimes (Niles & Glenview), which I had been frequenting before.

It's strange to me how there are so few Houstonians on the boards.

There's a place here called Nan's Games and Comics Too that just rocks. It's a pretty big place, and they have everything: RPG stuff out the wazoo, melee weapons (some really cool ones I've never seen anywhere else), comics, miniatures, models (everything from WWII to Alien to Gundam), tons of board games, games in different languages, chess sets, anime movies, pretty much anything you can think of that is in any way associated with gaming.

And I like to go in to see what one of the guys is going to be wearing. I swear he hasn't bought clothes in 30 years.

Grew up in Central Mass (Shrewsbury, just east of Worcester), and this was one of my favorite spots...

Were there any other good stores in Worcester? I thought that I used to pass a few going through the city on Route 9. I could have sworn that there was a Dragon's Lair there that I had heard great things about but I never got a chance to check it out and either it's not there anymore or I just forgot where it was.

Originally posted by Maerdwyn Is "Games People Play" still around on Mass Ave? I used to get my board games there.

It sure is, I forgot about them. For everyone else, here's the details...on Mass Ave in Cambridge between Central and Harvard (but closer to Harvard), it's a cool store but focuses on more traditional games and puzzles. There are a couple of shelves of RPG stuff including D20 and the selection is random but pretty good. The staff are real nice. Hours are a okay - open until 7:00 most nights, I think.

Here in Milwaukee - Home of Gen Con

I am a regualr at Napoleons.

Their specialty is miniatures/wargames especially 40k.
20 % off all Warhammer / 40k

They have a huge game room downstairs, but that is mainly for miniature battles.

They do have a large section (and growing) of RPGs of all kinds. The staff is excellent and knowledgable.

If they do not have it, you can order it.

Favorite Local Game Store.

Here in sunny So. California, I am surrounded by three W.O.T.C. stores (Malls) and a local game store. It's called The War House in Long Beach. They are heavy in the Miniature department. They have been there for over 20 years.

I remember a place in the Lakewood Mall called the Hobby Shop about 15 years ago. They had a downstairs full of WWI and WWII memorabilia.

In Austin Dragon's Lair is very good.
Once the best was King's Hobby but that was back when 2nd edition came out.

The only problem is none of the have good methods of finding new players. I sure wish I could find an new group.

Dragon's Lair is great in Austin! I go to the North Store often. They do not have enough in store gaming but it is better than nothing!

That'd have to be avalon books, she's runs a used book and gaming store, the owner is really a sweet woman, and me and a bunch of my friends buy books there. Of course I also buy stuff from Talon Comics, because ~D is the man! :)

The Gamekeeper in Amsterdam, Netherlands. This sin't a WotC gamekeeper though.

I get employee discount there because I will help them at conventions and stuff.
