OK, big problem with the pole:

their called DEMONS and DEVILS.

Also, could have been interesting to have some more choices, including drow as distinct from (other) elf. My feeling is that it would be getting more votes.

Aboleths- genetic engineering using, slimy, mind controlling, super ancient beings. A whole campaign can pass and the PCs could be none the wiser that an aboleth is pulling their strings from 30 feet below them in the sewer.

I think that'd be needlessly complicated. The poll has thirty options as is. With the option of choosing multiple creatures people are free to select all of the creatures they like for whatever reason they like them. Besides, it's sort of like an endless cycle; DMs think a monster is cool so they would like to use it which inevitably means that it will have been used eventually. We could also split the poll down the middle according to DM and player preferences but most people on these boards seem to have such a broad spectrum of experience in playing an DMing that I figure the poll shows a fairly accurate cross-section of all possible reasons for picking favorite villainous creatures.

Demons and devils, respectively. It was the name used in the 2nd ed. and is currently, IIRC, what they call themselves. Only primes use D&D.

The primary races of CE and LE fiends. All Tanar'ri are "demons" but not all "demons" are Tanar'ri, and the same for Baatezu and "devils".

As much as I like mind flayers, I'm kind of tired of them. Oooh, another mind flayer secretly behind all the troubles...*yawn*. Now aboleths on the other hand...I've never used one but they seem really cool.
