What's your favourite "Forgotten Realms" place?

Hi,

I've been running games off and on in the Realms since the 1e grey box and have never paid much attention to the novels (although I did run the excellent Horde trilogy). I voted "other" -- my favourites are Tethyr and the Bloodstone Lands.

"Who's Cadderly?"

Another of RA Salvatore's characters. He's the Chosen Priest of Denier. Came from ordinary background, killed off his old man, had people try to kill him. And all he really wanted was an ordinary life with his SO but got Chosen instead....

He's the guy in the Cleric Quintet series.

And thus we see the problem with Elminster. Every bloody FR player knows his stats. Everyone knows his history, what his signature spells are, what he had for breakfast on Tuesday...

I don't. But then I don't care.

Ok, maybe the books don't go into that much detail, but you see my point, I'm sure. A lot of players are like me, and haven't read all of the books. So we don't know much about some of the other less well-known iconics, but we wish we knew less about the "really famous" ones.

I haven't read all the books myself.

So what kind of an encounter with Elminster was it, and where did it happen?

It was mostly an info-gathering encounter from what I can recall, being out of it during the whole thing; tired from working that day and it was late in the night when this took place.
