The Changeling Girl (Here's the storyline before she came onto the site. Once I revise it, I'll add more. :) ) Once upon a time, there was a little girl. The little girl was a bad girl, because she wasn't supposed to be out after dark. But she went out anyway. Her parents were out, and the babysitter wasn't paying attention. The little girl thought she'd heard something out in the night, so she went to investigate. Alone, of course. It's always alone. The noise was coming from the rose bushes. So the little girl headed for them. She wasn't really scared, but curious. She pushed her way into the rose garden, and something shiny caught her eye. It was pretty, she knew it was, no matter how little she'd seen of it. Shiny things were always pretty. So she took off after it. Running and running, tearing even further into the rose bushes. But she went too far. The rose bushes had gotten much bigger, more like a thorny hedge of some sort. The thorns caught her arms and legs a few times, embedding her skin, making it bleed. Blood pooled in her shoes, making her toes slip together, and before long, the little girl couldn't remember where she'd come from. She was lost. She couldn't even remember why she was wondering through what had become a labyrinth of hedges. She began to get frightened, but then... Then the shiny thing appeared again, ahead of her. Only this time it was standing still. The little girl cautiously approached and saw an amazingly beautiful woman, just standing there. Smiling, although sadly. She told the little girl she'd lost her way some time ago. She remembered now how to get back, but she was afraid. If only the little girl would go with her, and hold her hand, she wouldn't be frightened. The little girl was nice, and she couldn't see any reason not to help the sad lady. So she went with her. Deeper into the hedges they went, until they came to this beautiful clearing. The sun was shining brightly, but it was cold. So very cold... It made the little girl shiver. But the little girl remembered the truth, once stepping foot there, where she was from, and that she was lost. She became frightened. She whimpered. She cried. She begged the woman to help her find her way home. But the woman just smiled cruelly. She said, 'Welcome to Arcadia, the abode of the Gentry. My abode.' A beginning to many, many long, hard years for the girl, whom the woman who called herself 'Gentry' pressed into indentured servitude. The whims of the cruel woman became the tasks of the child. Years and years, she did precisely what was commanded. The Gentry woman's favorite whim was to have the girl fetch her blue roses, from the Hedge. The girl never complained after the first time, after being taught what happens to those who complain. The girl went on rose-searching quests, time and time again. What she saw there was herself, sleeping soundly. The little girl had been replaced, or had never existed at all.. So she became the Lost. And that's the end. Rather sad, really.
