Don't scare me like that, Gary! I don't want RPGs to sprial down to an online style experience!
Heh...

All I am doing is passing along in precis what a lot of industry pros have speculated about.

From a marketing standpoint, making 4E in the mold of WoW is likely a great move.

Cheers,
Gary

To the best of my knowledge, the efreet are indeed fire elementals ;)

That's how I always took them (and djinn): intelligent humanoid elementals. Sort of more evolved than normal elementals.

Indeed,

In my reading I have found the Marid as water elementals, Djinn as air elementals, and Djann as earth elementals, so all the elements are covered thus.

Heh,

And that is how the Old Guard Kobolds got their start. they now exist in both my OD&D and OAD&D dungeons and will certainly appear in the Castle Zagyg work. Gotta love the noobs--at least newbies to real S&S role-playing-- that don't run away when things are clearly gone south for them

My wife, who had never played D&D (or any RPG), hung in later than she should have in her second or third combat. Afterwards, the other players asked her why she didn't cut and run.

"I didn't know retreat was option. Never occurred to me."

My wife kicks ass.

If this is how things go, I forecast a corresponding severe growth in the grumpy-old-grognard movement as all the disaffected 3e types join up... :)

That aspect too has been discussed, and the opinion seemed to be that of 4E was indeed a sort of paper MMP, then support of all editions before 34E would be dropped, the basically new audience enbraced and cultivated, as the potential consumer base is vastly larger than that for all the current paper RPGs and Warhammer game variants roilled into one.

There is always room for returnees to the proper game systems...

Gary
