When dragons decide they need hobbies...

I got a gold dragon young'un who is infatuated with 'mortal' history and culture. She spends almost all of her time with the locals of some town, interacting with them, studying their social behaviors very closely (all in humanoid form, naturally). Its probably been years, maybe decades, since she's even been in dragon form, and no one knows what she really is. I don't want to give too much away, incase some of my players read this, but she's pretty much a loremaster type of character. Her hobby is learning about the humaoid cultures.

She has no lair, no hoard. She loves not gold, but interaction with humanoids. She mesures her wealth not by gems and currency, but by knowledge and the people who trust her. She descibes the other dragon's selfishness as 'silly.'

I generally see most dragon doing research. Some it might involve magic, other into life styles/cultures. Still others might involve themselves in mortal races intrigues and try to gain godhood. Still others might just try to be a protector, kind of druid of their kinds. :)

In my OA campagin, which I'm running a "mythic rokugan" campagin as the OA book talked about (IE, replace some clans with elves, dwarves, etc), one of the main NPCs the party deals with is a dragon... who spends most of his time polymorphed into a Crane Clan Elf who is the current grand champion of Go*. Nobody except the party knows his true identity.

*Go: An asian stratagey game that has some similarities with tic-tac-to and Othello. Great fun.

I once had an adult red dragon who built a diorama in precious and semi-precious stones of his home territory. Covered the floor of his lair with a glassteel floor people could walk on and have a look at his creation. He charged admission and used the money to expand and improve on his creation.

One of the highlights was the recreation of a scene from a battle between him and a group of invaders some years back. The wizard in question (who did die of his injuries) is now living in nearby town and consults with the dragon regarding lair security.

What a question !

They serve as advisor for a leader, or become leader themselves.

They create a demiplane in which they rebuild the world in miniature, with magically-created miniature version of every lifeform they need.

They polymorph into something they havn't already tried and proceed to make half-dragon bastards.

They read books. Lots of books.

They explore the planes.

They play the puppeteer with simple people, chosing an ordinary someone and making him live an extraordinary life; considering this a form of theater.
