When is a Shuriken not a Shuriken?

I like shurikens but the name grates on me when I consider their use in non-Japanese areas, or in worlds that don't have an equivilant oriental area. So I'm looking for different names for that weapon.

There's always the generic term 'throwing star', which works well enough. 'Bladestar' from Stackpole's DragonCrown War series is cool as well.

Any other ideas?

Throwing Knife.

Chakram. (From Exalted, those cool curved disk things from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.)

You could also use campaign/flavor-specific things. :D

When it's a razor-edged flumph! :D

But seriously folks... throwing star, throwing steel, round dagger, disk dagger, air-cutter, edge circle, or star dagger.

I'd stick with Bladestar, simply because Mike Stackpole rocks.

I like his books, and he had traps in Grimtooth's. What more needs to be said? :)

Chakram, Chacra, Chakar and Chakra are all the same weapon. They originally come from the Sikhs. Its a weapon from india.

I don't remember the scene in CTHD, but Chakram are round, frisbie like weapons with holes in the middle. The outersides are sharpened.
