When is a square a square on a battle map?

Hi all,

I'm at work and do not have access to my rulebooks, but something has been chewing on the back of my brain I'd love some outside opinions on.

You're getting ready for combat and you draw up a map. It's not square - it has round towers or angled alleys or crates or wheelbarrows or whatnot.

How do you adjudicate when a square can or can't be entered? If half the square is open and clear? All or none? Do you make characters squeeze to be up against the wall in a hallway? I'm curious how you folks handle it.

Thanks!

As frank says, use the squeezing rules (half movement, -4 AC and -4 Atks for 1/2 a square for medium/small, requires Escape Artist for smaller areas). Try not to make artificially squeezing areas, however. For example, a 5ft wide corridor drawn halfway in two squares should still be one full square, not two halves. Similarly, if you make a 5ft diameter tower centered on a grid point (rather than a square).
