When should we expect answers?

When they announce the DI, we'll all have gotten used to the fact that Dragon is no longer a print magazine, and so we'll be looking at the DI with that in mind. Otherwise, we'll get two shocks at once, there will be the outrage about cancelling Dragon, numerous comparisons between the two, etc. All things that will overshadow the DI itself.

But then, why have they stated, that it is related to the DI? It would've been far more intelligent (if they're doing the disconnect) to announce nothing at all right now, just stating that they're revisiting their licensing policies.

See, they could've gone the way:
"Magazine is fine, and we're slowly transitioning together to the DI over the course of a your, including previews in the magazines - to show the benefits."

Or the way:
"We're not licensing the magazines any more. Stay tuned." (like with Ravenloft, CMP, and Dragonlance)

But they've done this:
"We're not licensing anything any more, because we're going to do a DI, that we'll announce in some time, and we're knowing stuff you don't know."

People will make the comparison regardless of when the annoucement is made. Rational outrage is worse than passionate outrage.

Basically, WotC is changing our universe one step at a time, and giving us time to adjust one change at a time.

Any public statement from Wizards will (most likely) have to go through their lawyers and PR people. It's a simple fact of corporate life. If they say one thing and then don't deliver, then they can be in for a world of hurt.

Small companies (like Paizo) have it much easier. They can pretty much just do what they want.
