When was the Golden Age of Dragon magazine?

IMO the golden age of Dragon was late 80s to early 90's. Back then it was useful articles rather than more and more new rules options. Sure, you had new spells and NPC classes and the like, but you got plenty of straight fluff articles without new mechanics. If Dragon could go back to that I'd start buying it again.

Issue#39 to #100. It was a first edition phenomenon that took place under Kim Mohan.

Issue #39 contained the infamous Anti-Paladin as well as Good Hits and Bad Misses. At the height of the Golden Age, in the issues in #70s, you had the classics of Ed Greenwood and the Realms (this is before there was a FR official setting). Ed's articles on Gems, the Psionics issue, Ed's articles on the Nine Hells...

These issues are still in demand, to this day.

It was most definitely NOT the late 80s to the 90s. Sorry if you guys who look fondly back on the hey-day of 2nd edition as a Golden Age - but it wasn't. It was over by then.

circa 2003. Particularly August to.. perhaps November?

Some of my favourite bits and pieces came from those few issues. And yes, I have quite a few eariler and later ones.

The first 3 years I read it.

Like they say, "The golden age of Science Fiction is 12." The same is true of Fantasy and Sci-Fi/Fantasy gaming

I like it now personally. I have tons of dragon maginizes. I actually just opened my box they were all in and started reading them. I keep going back to the newer issues instead and reading those.

When people compalin about the old dragon why don't you try and find the Dragon Magazine Archieve. Its got issue 1 thru 250 on it. You can search for specific articles or kepy words in it. I don't know how hard it is to find but it has become very useful for me latlely.

Wow. No truer words have been spoken err typed. I still fondly remember playing in a game with a Psionicist (issue #78 I think) and an Incantrix (#90?). Still have some of my oldest issues from around that time. Especially the 'Chessboard' covered ones.

That being said I have to say the last year or so of Dragon has been very, very good. Easily worth the money for a subscription.
