I'm in no way qualified to render a verdict on a "golden age," having not read much of Dragon for nearly two decades. But I'll agree with those who've suggested that the issues around the 70s were great. Back then (at least for me), Dragon was like a lifeline of semi-official AD&D content between the rare releases of hardcovers. The psionics issue just about got worn down to the thread, and I remember being very drawn into the new magic-user spells before the release of the original UA. The chessboard covers were compelling, too. Though I understand why it happened, the removal of modules from Dragon and the birth of Dungeon, whenever that was, sort of marked the end of my interest in Dragon.
