There's been a "new edition", or "big revision", or "whatever you want to call it" roughly every three years since I began playing in 1974. ...

Huh? The 1E AD&D PHB was published in 1978. The 2E PHB was published in 1989. There were no revisions to the AD&D PHB, DMG, or MM between the late 70's and 1989.

I suppose you might call Unearthed Aracana a 'revision' to the rules -- but that would be a real stretch IMO, given that it was not in anyway part of the 'core' (and could thus be ignored).

Why don't the moderators just sticky a "When Will 4th Ed. Come Out?" thread once and for all? :)

While they're at it, they can sticky a "The Many Problems with 2nd Ed" thread as well -- something to finally unite the 1E grognards and 3E neophytes.

1edADnD made its appearance in 1977 with the release of the Monster Manual.

Holmes Basic 2edD&D also showed up in 1977. 3edD&D (Holmes revised) a little later.

Moldvay Basic and Cook Expert in 1981. and Companions... etc.. 1983 and so on.

the UA was a revision to 1edADnD in the sense it is used in RPGs today.

and then you had Dragonlance.

and OA

and FR grey boxed set..

and then 2edADnD
and then...Skills and Powers
and then so on...

yeah, there is something new or different being released on a regular basis.

2ed was not unstable it was great. 3.0 was unstable they changed it in about 3 years and 3.5 still has problems LA on bugbears, Svage species, vampire that have an energy draining slam whoever did that should be shot. Thats why I have problems with 3.5 but it works and Rouges don't exist in my world. TRo me they will always be a theif.

As you say, 3.5 does work, although I hear that the vampires and bugbears (particularly ones that live in LA) have made it so unstable that they have brought forward the 4E release by 2 years. But I can see why you would prefer 2E, what with the consistent ability and multi-classing rules, streamlined saving throw system, balanced specialist wizards etc.

I'm relieved to hear rouge doesn't exist on your world; ever since it was introduced in one of those unbalancing 3E supplements (Lipstick and Lingerie, I believe), it's been playing havoc with my campaign...
