They'll wait until no one predicts it for at least 45 seconds.

Then they will announce 4e and everyone will think someone really just said the sky is falling. We'll all be caught off guard when it actually does show up on the store shelf.

No one will have actually seen it coming.

Let's see the world is supposed to end around 2012, so if they want to make any money off of 4th edition, they had better sell it before then. It looks like 2010 would be a great time for a product release.

Now if I were a marketer for WotC, I would just skip 4th edition. With all the angst and turmoil over 4th edition, it would be better not to touch it with a 10' pole. Because you know with all the 4th edition rumors flying about, everyone is bound to get high hopes over the new edition. Once 4th edition comes out, everyone will be vastly disappointed that their favorite race/skill/feat/rule was cut, nerfed, or poorly implemented. There will be an outcry of such proportions that the land will tremble, the seas will boil, and the sky will rage. It could be the end of civilization as we know it.

As such, it would be much better to skip 4th edition entirely leaving the foreshadowed doomsday alone. I say push on to 5th edition because everyone likes the number 5 ;)

Hmmm...

Star Trek V is considered by many to be the worst, yet Star Wars Episode V is considered by many to be the best. Maybe they'd be better off dropping the number from the edition altogether, and call it "D&D Begins". :p

It's already been announced. We're on 5E. Didn't you get the memo?
No. Meh.

But I think, it will not be announced at all! WotC will pull a SNEAK ATTACK, and suddenly, your wallet feels lighter, and in your backpack is a... 4th edition PHB! No choice, dude!

It's tomorrow! The end is nigh!

John 3:16! John 3:16!

Save the cheerleader, save the world!

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

*jumps out window*

:D

4E? no there will distill the editions to create True D&D the collectible punch out card game/miniature sales extravaganza! D20 Modern? Now True D&D Modern using the magic system from the WOTC 3e Wheel of Time Setting! And the cards are sold three per pack unless you spend four times as much for a five pack with one ultra rare common card and two pack of miniatures for the current price of the collosal red dragon!

And they will announce it at every con including those that have nothing to do with gaming including model train con, barbiecon, and the great gathering of people who didn't like dances with wolvescon.
