When your game starts turning into Velveeta

So here's the question, I'm I just being a poor sport, or do I have a legit reason to be irritated? I have a group of Power Gamers that will shortly reach Epic levels, it is becoming increasingly difficult for me to challenge them without customizing monsters to specifically target certain PCs. Of course when I do that my players all cry foul!

Help?

Time to find a new group. Playing with power gamers is no fun. I have a much better experience as DM, when I very carefully screen my players.

Your players cannot FORCE you to run a game that you DON'T want to run or in a way that you don't like nor are capable of. If you're already having problems as levels approach epic you're under no obligation to go there. If you prefer low or mid level gameplay because you're familiar with it and CAN run a good campaign within those parameters then that's what you should run.

Don't let players browbeat you into losing YOUR enjoyment of the game. But you have to EXPLAIN that to them. TALK to your players. Tell them you're going to close down your current campaign - tell them WHY - and then wrap up your current game and start over. Even if they do whine and complain about your decision they'll get over it soon enough when they have all new characters that they enjoy every bit as much as their old ones.

Yeah and don't forget to make food too expensive to afford. It's hard for charcters to accumulate much power if they have to spend all their money on food. If you make a meal as expensive as a large iron shield they'll never be able to afford anything good. I had one DM who actually did this, fortunately we never managed to reach third level so we weren't accused of being munchkins.
Ah, the memories :D!

Bah. Power Gamers are fun to play with, if you're prepared and flexible.

My group's a bunch of power gamers, and we still get our tails handed to us semi-regularly by one of the DMs, who's an even better power gamer.

Yeah, my flags would've gone off at allowing Limited Wish to do something like that....that's potent stuff....

Cheese is enjoyable, but too much of it will block you game right up. They've gotta have their dairy, but they need other things too.
