Where can i get gaming books for cheap?

Balgus

First Post
This past weekend, my brother and my other brother's GF expressed interest inplaying DND.

After an ad hoc game that was very brief and simple, they said that they were up to playing once in a while (i said once a month). So I am planning on geting them each a PHB and a set of dice for christmas- just to get them started on the rules.

Can anyone point out where i can order books for cheap. i don't want to pay th $40 for the books- and if there is a place where i can order both books and dice at the same time (cut back on shipping) that would be evenbetter.

Thank you ahead of time.

Oh yeah- and if you are thinking BUY.com- you can save your breath. i don't like their customer service and they prolly won't get to me by next Christmas- so I am not even going to think of them... eventho they are cheap.

Well, I know Russ will give you 10% off by going to the ENWorld store - linked off the main page. Plus you can buy dice there. While 10% isn't super cheap, you will have the added good karma of helping to support the boards. :)

Maybe if there was a fantastic website devoted to D&D/d20, with a messageboard and it's own online store?

http://www.enworld.rpgshop.com/

And if it offered 10% off pretty much everything, sold dice too, and had one flat price for shipping ($5.95, I believe)?

As a bonus, the shipping is fast, and the people are friendly!

Dang, a maddman beat my 3 minutes, and he was less sarcastic about it. Oh well, now you have 2 votes for EN World's own store.

At the risk of becoming unpopular and bringing down the Wrath of Morrus I would humbly suggest used booksotres or the 'used' bin at a local gaming store. I have found some incrible deals at the ones here in London (Ontario that is not England). A quick list would include

Silver Age Sentinels list $60 bought for $30

Feng Shui list $40, bought for $21

D&D 3E PHB list $40 bought for $20 (got two for this price and gave both away as gifts)

Dragonstar list $35 bought for $17

These were all in the 'used' bin at my FLGS but were in excellent condition SAS never even looked liked it had been opened and the PHB still had their CDs in them.

So scour those used bookstores and gaming shops first - you might get lucky like me!! :)

Ebay! Use ebay.

Used stuff there is generally anywhere from 50% to 20% of cover price.

Sometimes game stores put stuff on their for less than what usually offer. FRP Games (who advertises here), for instance, does that a lot. (They're also a real good company to buy from, BTW).

That can take some looking though. And auctions are always a pain in the @#%$@ compared to just ordering. But eh.

thanks a lot

AMazon has some really cheap ones ($20) but i dont know if i can really trust their "be there in 5-6 days" thing with free shipping. Anyone care to comment?

FRP looks really good- especially with the dice and all. But i am gonna hold off for a couple days just to look around.

If you want as cheap as you can get, E-Bay, or used bookstores/used book rack at gaming stores.

You might even get lucky and find a lot-bid of the core 3E books cheap on e-bay.
