Where Greg Stafford got his ideas

Listening to a lecture series, Religion in the Ancient Mediterranean World by Professor Glenn S Holland. There have been several "Aha, so that's where RuneQuest got that from" moments so far.

This is from the lectures:

In The Iliad the gods obey Fate not because Fate is unavoidable, not because it has an absolute power, but because to go against the dictates of Fate would be to undo the fabric of the cosmos. It would be to invite Chaos to reign once again. Fate is part of the webbing that holds the cosmos together and to violate Fate, to go against its dictates, means that Chaos can break into Creation and lead to the end of all things including the gods themselves.

This is from The Guide to Glorantha Volume I (2014):

Arachne Solara is the nickname of an otherwise unnamed deity who may be the Goddess of Nature in Glorantha. Her origins are mysterious, but there are strong indications that she is the ghost of Glorantha, the Mother of the Universe. Some claim that she even extracts respect from the greatest gods.
Arachne Solara constructed a great and magical web made of many things no longer found in the world, and then she gave the web to all of the gods to hold ready between them. When Chaos entered into their realm, the gods cast the net upon Kajabor and held him tight while the goddess leapt upon him... She enwrapped the Chaos god in her legs and struggled mightily, and at last devoured him whole.
Then the goddess carefully collected her net and used it to conceal the birth of her child. The child is the Pledge of the Gods, and all existence swore by it to uphold their agreements. This is also called the Great Compromise or the Immortal Pact, and it is the oath which recreated the world.
