Honestly, have these people never even seen a science fiction movie? Arming the robots is just a bad, bad idea. It never ends well.

"that stuff is fiction."

of course, it's the non-belief in such things that usually causes them to come true. ;)
 

Discovery had some future warrior shows on a week or three ago, they had three robots armed with I believe M249s. They were ROV, running on treads, but they seem like first step or rather first gen combat robots to me.

No, it always ends well - but a lot of people die in the process, there are lots of explosions, the hero winds up sweaty in tattered clothes, and whoever made the robots is shafted. But humankind is saved from the robot menace, looking forward to a brighter future....

Unless the expect a sequel, and this is where the supposedly-dead robot's eyes light up red and menacing...
