Where is the Metamagic Rod of Widen?

It is not in the DMG... did it get forgotten? I would assume that it cost the same as the Maximize Metamagic rod, but we know what happens when you assume. Anyone know anything about this?

(Oh, I said I guess it would cost the same because Maximize and widen both take a spell level 3 higher than the spell being cast.)

Ahh the magic widening rod.... I think I know why they couldn't fit it in. While it might be a favorite of people who like playing loose games, the authors were trying to keep things tight, and felt it might be kind of a stretch.

I actually heard that the writers tried to sneak it in the back door, but the editors were wise to their trick and caught them with their pants down. They told them in no uncertain terms that the rod would never get in that way.
