Where Is This Magic Item?

I think I once saw a magic item, in a d20 (i.e., non-WotC) book, that functioned as a sort of metamagic buffer. The item gave a certain number of levels per day that could be used to offset the level cost of using metamagic feats (for example, if it gave five levels, you could use 3 Maximize a spell, use another to Silence a different spell, and use the last to Extend another spell).

Anybody know what book this is in? Or did I just imagine the dang thing?

sounds like someone converted a concept from 2ed.

probably in Sword & Sorcery's line of books.

You may be talking about the ring of sorcery from Spells & Magic by Bastion Press (page 90) although it doesn't mention anything about using the extra levels for metamagic feats.
