Pathfinder 1E Where should Pathfinder Threads Go?

What do you think?

I'm thinking that Pathfinder threads should go in the General Forum for now. This might also be a good time to discuss how we'll organize the forums once 4E hits (or for someone to point me to previous discussions that may have already taken place on the subject).

I think so, too. There's a lot of chatter about it right now, but it'll die down. If it turns into a permanently major discussion topic, we can cross that bridge when/if we come to it.

My suggestion is this:

When 4E is released there should be a 4E rules forum opened, the current rules forum should be renamed 3E rules forum (or pre-4E rules forum) or something, and non-rules threads about 4E should go in general.

I think House Rules has low enough traffic that the various versions can mix in there with no problem, but we should make sure there are thread tags for 4E vs. 3E or 3.75 or whatever.

These are good ideas. There''ll probably be enough 3e (or pre-4e) traffic to support a rules forum for some time, and 4e will need its own place. For a while, we wil probably have to be careful about what goes in General, as many general discussions touch on rules to some extent.

I especially think House Rules should be multi-edition. My guess is that a lot of the house-ruling will be cross-edition - bringing 3.x stuff into 4e, and vice versa.

Strictly, isn't Paizo an OGL game, belonging in the forum with d20 Modern/Grim Tales/Spycraft/M&M?

(I notice one person got it right.)

Technically this would be true, but I think we'd get a lot of pushback from Pathfinder fans. I think its best to treat it as a a subset of the 3.5 rules. There's going to be lots of overlap between 3.5 and Pathfinder. I think relegating it to the OGL game forum would almost be seen as "ghettoizing" it.

My personal reaction is 'Bollocks' - it's an OGL game published by a 3rd party company, not D&D, and the OGL forum isn't the ghetto, it's where OGL games published by a 3rd party company go.

But that's me :)

Heck, it is no more ghettohised there than d20 Modern (by WotC) or Star Wars (by WotC)...

"Ghetto" is defined by condition - if it is is a place where those wealthy (in knowledge, in this case) don't generally go, it is sort of a ghetto.

So, how much traffic does it really get? Because, while it is a d20 game, it does (for now) also seem to be the heir apparent to 3.x. Technicalities of classification are nice, but health of discussion is nicer.

But won't those who have an interest in the Pathfinder RPG go there, if that's where it is?

I suspect 4E would disagree with you!
