Where to begin?

I'm thinking of getting into CoC as a way of bringing a few family members into RPG gaming, but with so many additions and so much material, I have no idea where to begin. Any ideas?

Grab a copy of the core rules. I poersonally like 5th edition but any of them should do fine. Once you get that and read that I would actually go read the stories to get a good feel for the material before diving into suppkliments and modules.

I'm pretty familiar with lovecraft already, as well as his mythology. It has been a long time since I ready it, 20+ years actually but I think I'll be ok. I found a 5.5 book on ebay. I'll start there. Thanks.:)

One of the things about CoC is that it hasn't changed very much over the life of the game, so one edition is pretty much the same as another. I would look at the sample adventures included, as those have changed over the years more than anything else.

If you see something that's interesting, pick up that edition.

CoC is a great game to introduce people to, since the attitude of the investigator: ("there's a monster, run!!!") is easy to understand.
