What I did was to buy one of the poster-sized paper battle mats at my local store for $5. I then went and spent about $8 getting it laminated at Kinkos. I had to go to a couple to find one willing to do it. The cutters they have available to the public won't cut it though (too small) and they're supposed to charge you per side to cut the excess off. The one I was at didn't, though, since I couldn't do it. Anyways, with the lamination, you have a poster sized battle mat that you can write on with either dry erase or wet erase markers (just don't mix them) and it's relatively inexpensive. $15 as compared to $25+ for the real ones.
