Where to start with Fritz Leiber's Lankhmar?

Thanks for all the info. I was at a half-price bookstore today just outside of Pittsburgh, and I found an old paperback copy of Swords And Deviltry, which I paid a whopping 65 cents for! It's a little beat up, but it has the same stories that the Dark Horse collection has, so this will be a nice introduction for me.

I also picked up a copy of The High Crusade, by Poul Anderson, for 70 cents. I just love old paperbacks with small cover prices. :)

My favorite story of all is the full-length novella that he wrote, "Swords of Lankhmar." You get some interesting rat-based encounters, some VERY funny dialogue. You get interesting romantic foils for the guys (including a transparent Newhon Goul, though for my money, Frix is far more intriguing!). It also has a sustained long-range plot, which is different from a lot of his shorter works, which often have little to no plot whatsoever.

As far as I am concerned Swords of Lankhmar is the definitive F&GM story. It may be one of my favorite fantasy stories of all time, even edging out most Conan stories with the possible exception of Red Nails.
