The question, though, is why ...

Well, it is an aberration, so it may be a created being. Perhaps the creator gave the creature a limitation in order to help control it in the long term - it requires some essential nutrient in its diet that is had to come by, and some filcher found that the nutrient is found in socks. If, for example, there is some compound that it needs that is found in humanoid sweat, stealing the occasional dirty sock to suck on would be a low-risk way to get it...

Or maybe they find orc-sweat to be an addictive drug...

Or, well, they only have one foot themselves, so there's no point in stealing the pair, right?
