Where's the oppressive fluff?

For so many months, I was told on these boards that the 4e fluff was going to ruin homebrewing. That it was hardwired to the rules and made serious headaches for those that didn't play in "The Default World".

So, I'm looking at the core rules and... where is all that restraining fluff?

Actually, there's a thread on RPG.net complaining about the blandness and genericness of the 4e rules... :D

You can satisfy some people most of the time, or most people some of the time, but you can never satisfy nerds? :D

Well, I'm not trying to gloat so much as saying "That was a lot of unnecessary arguing and gnashing of teeth."

To their credit, though, I get the feeling that fluff was removed because people objected.
Either that, or WotC was trying to stir the messageboards into a frenzy to keep people talking.

I can see where the various fluff went; the Burning Blizzard feat? "Emerald Frost".

I can't believe those SOB's would have the unmitigated gall to actually respond to their customer's wishes.

:D

This is where I think the truth of the matter lies.

You know I was one of the people who didn't want WotC's drastic fluff changes. The thing is after reading through the books, I have to say I think most people are disappointed with the MM. WotC seems like they spent all their time thinking up uber kewl names for monsters (as well as way too many "variations"... c'mon 7 various goblins), and then, for most of them, you get a description that, without a picture, you can't really even tell what the creature looks like, sounds like, how it acts (outside of it's fighting tactics), etc. But hey now there's a goblin hexer??? For a really serious example of this read the Basilisk entry withhout looking at the picture and describe what it looks like.
