D&D 4E Which 3.xE settings will not make it to 4E?

With the move from 2E to 3E some much loved settings didn't make it for various reasons, e.g. Planescape, Dark Sun, Spelljammer, etc., with the move to 4E which settings do we think will not make the jump?

I suspect this will be a mixture of settings which did not sell well enough in 3.xE to justify a 4E version (e.g. the Black Company might fall into this category?), those that now focus on a different game system (e.g. Swashbuckling adventures, Rokugan, etc.), and those that are too entenched in 3.xE to easily convert (e.g. Ptolus?).

My prediction: None of them will make it, except for:

- FR
- Eberron
- Golarion (Paizo)
- Freeport (GR)
Good list, and I would venture to say, accurate.

I would LIKE to see Scarred Lands go 4e, since it has a VERY PoL feel to it. And maybe even Oathbound. I think a lot of what they were trying to do, buying specialty abilities with XP, could be done within the rules of 4e.

I'm betting that the fewer sourcebooks a setting had in 3.5 means the less of a chance it will get a second shot at 4e.

At least, until people figure out what they can and can't do with the system. d20 is pretty malleable, 4e may or may not be.

Remember, they have to keep the D&DI pipeline full, and do their book a month. They will need material.

The new cosmology will replace planescape (and spelljammer). But there will be, if anything, more emphasis on the planes. Could be one or more "planes" books.

Speaking of which, the shadowfel will replace Ravenloft, and seems to be inspired by it.

Dark Sun and Oerth will be seen on D&D insider. And I think they will do a few Greyhawk print products.

Dragonlance I don't know. They will not walk away from it, but it may be done through license.

And their will probably be some kind of Oriental Adventures. What form, hard to say.

What is Shadowfell?
The re-imagined plane of shadow, as read in the cosmology article. While it has a "Land of the Dead" vibe, it's very different from Ravenloft. Because Ravenloft doesn't resemble a "Land of the Dead" very much - only the dark theme are similar.

Therefore I also conclude, that the Shadowfell will not be a Ravenloft-light or re-imagined Ravenloft.

Cheers, LT.

I think many settings will have a resurrection in 4E thanks to D&DI. Polyhedron magazine tried to do this but it had a low circulation to begin with and when it was teamed with Dungeon it alienated all the subscribers who wanted more adventures not more settings. With an online 'zine you can spread a restored setting over several issues without stealing the thunder of regular columns.
I think that Planescape could have a rebirth in the new planar cosmology. It will take work but many of the themes and feel can fit in the new planes.
