Which DVD set should I order?

Hmm, and I've got friends telling me its great. I better preview some fansubs before making a commitment like that...

I could always go back to my original plan of gobbling up all those $1 VHS tapes. But I like DVD so much better, plus the shipping on the VHS tapes is unreal (flat $1 per tape charge)

I would suggest Bastard! or Chobits. Though you're better off buying chobits on ebay and getting the japanese dvd set. It's the same thing on 3 dvds and should cost much much less.

Whats your take on Chobits? The artwork and animation looks great, but I'm not sure its something I'd get dragged into.

Gimme a critique - what do you like about it, etc?

Bastard! is already on my list of titles I'd like to own :)

I have only seen the first 5 eps. I think its a great mix of silly/wierd that only anime can do. One ep it seems to be light hearted like early Ranma 1/2 without the combats and then the next ep it gets deep. Not Eva deep mind you but still deep. I wouldn't call myself an anime expert so others may feel differently.

When I first saw Chobits it was at a con. I only went because there was nothing else going on and I didn't think I would like it. An hour later I was upset that they were only going to only last for another hour. So it did it for me.

I kinda have an anime watching group going, anyway. Of my 9 man D&D group, 7 of us are certified otaku.

I'm still really not sure which way to go - the orgininal BGC was fantastic but I've heard that 2040 doesn't approach it. It looks prety, though... :\

To give you an idea of what I like, currently in my collection is:
Sorcerer Hunters
Read or Die (OVA & TV)
Hellsing
Lodoss War (Record of & Chronicles)
Inu Yasha (yep, the whole dang thing)
BoogiePop Phantom
Ghost in the Shell
Cowboy Bebop
Spirited Away
FLCL
Escaflowne
Trigun
Witch Hunter Robin

and quite a bit I'm not even remembering right now...

Sniktch, you're spending far too much of your time watching anime. You should be doing better things, such as designing a pbp adventure for Ike. :p

And in the end I went with none of the above, of course - just some VHS tapes and single DVDs :heh:

Anyone ever seen Gasaraki? They have the 8 DVD box set on sale for $35 right now, wondering if its worth it (certainly can't beat the price)
