Hmm this thread seems to indicate to me that Dual Wielding really does suck now. I guess most people only do it for flavor. I wonder if it would change if absolute ambidexterity was a CORE feat.

The only fighter I played so far went 2-weapon; Sword & Board; and 2-handed. In all cases he uses bastard swords, and changed as the situation demanded. Why go with only one style when flexibility is the fighters strong point?

All of the above only use a human fighters 1st level feats. (less in 3.5). Sword and board when AC was needed or at the start of a battle; two weapon against lots of weaker opponents and two-handed when pure damage was better then higher AC.

My fighter weilds a greatsword, but that is because his is an ex-temple gaurd for the temple of Kord and what would a temple of Kord gaurd weild except a greatsword ;)

And just to throw a spanner in the works, I have a dwarven Bbr5/Rgr5 who dual wields sword and board. Improved Shield Bash, Shield Charge and Shield Expert are useful.

I play as a Minotaur Barbarian / Frenzied Berzerker and use the charge combined with rhino hide armour to get my natural charge damage to 8d6 +26 in a full barbarian rage & Frenzy. So the point I'm making is natural weopons but once I've charged it's a huge greataxe 2 handed ;)

Bet you're not looking forward to 3.5, then, with Rhino Hide changing from "double" to "+2d6"...

I wonder if they changed the aniamted shield dilli in the DMg. for a mere +1 enhancement you can completly negate the eason for sword and board, ebcause you can be two weapon or two hander and board.

+2d6 on rhino hide: I hope it can be put on any armor now, and for that benefit it should be cheap.(maybe you can stack it if taken multiple times)
