I like the scarlet brotherhood and Iuz. Eclavdra and Obmi were also great more mudane villains.

On the other hand, I dont even like the Forgotten Realms and I really think the Red Wizards are terrific villains.

And whoever said that the Cult of the Dragon are moronic losers should really read the current Year of Rogue Dragons trilogy and learn just what a bunch of crazed undead-dragon worshippers are actually capable of doing. They totally redeem themselves as a major threat to Faerun with what they are doing in that!

Well, I got that impression from the 2e days of FR. I've read the Cult of the Dragon accessory, and I can't quite fathom from that how these guys are a big threat. They seemed like more of a bad joke than anything else. Then again too, this is the same 2e FR that made Cyric the big bad evil god.

1. Scarlet Brotherhood - they have been with me from my first days of gaming, good name too!
2. Emerald Claw - take them as a splinter cell to the Scarel Brotherhood.
3. Red Wizards - as said icon villian

Me, I voted for the Cult of the Dragon, I think those baddies are just plain evil and insane. I mean, you try to convince a evil dragon not to eat you right off and to consider becoming a dracolich. Smooth talking freaks, they are.

Also, does anyone else think that a D&D book detailing all those evil organizations would be a great product?

Cheers!

Well, Lords of Darkness has all the info on the FR eeeeeevil! organizations and I'm sure Eberron will have its time as well. But poor, olde Greyhawk will be neglected once again. :(

The Doomguard are villians? *boggle* The faction leadership (ie Pentar and Cromlich) struck me as psychotic and zealous, but the faction as a whole isn't really evil. Post Faction War two of the 4 splinter sects are very definately a more evil bent, ie those wanting to intentionally speed up the destruction and entropic decay of the multiverse. However another two of the splinter sects aren't really evil at all, thinking that things are proceeding normally and shouldn't be messed with, and the other thinking that it's all happening too fast to be natural and proper so they need to slow it down.

IIRC, two of the Greater Doomlords of the Doomguard are some flavor of good. Pentar was just crazy as a loon and between her and Ely Cromlich, they ended up destroying the faction (though the whole Pentar getting mazed thing probably limited some of the damage).

"Nothing is static. Everything is evolving. Everything is falling apart." - Tyler Durden, 'Fight Club'. The Quintessential Doomguard. ;)

I admit, I like the doomies, even if I more or less obliterated them IMC from the top down.

I voted for the Red Wizards; I like the idea of an evil mercantile organization. If unofficial settings were included I would have voted for Utopia from Oathbound (a government like 1984) or a homebrew group of druids that control the food supply for a very over populated archepelago.

The Harmonium (Planescape). I don't find capital-E Evil very interesting. A group who think of themselves, and are thought of by many others, as good guys are much more insidious. The 2e account of the Harmonium campaign against the Indeps gave me a genuine qualm.
